Goodbye ‘maybes’

It’s funny when you start looking at the way you live your life and talking openly about it, how pieces of the puzzles start dropping into place.

After a recent conversation I was sent a link to the podcast ‘The power of letting go of maybes in your life’ with Sarah Tynan. It’s an interesting discussion about recognising how you feel about things and the way your body reacts to tell you if something is right or definitely not right for you. It’s more than gut instinct that lets you know a situation makes you happy or uncomfortable. It’s a physical response, one that you can tune into or choose to ignore.

Tynan talks about it like ‘shaking a rug’ to throw out the areas of your life that no longer serve you.

She goes on to say that the worst are in fact the maybes; those choices that we live with because they aren’t bad enough to get rid of, but also aren’t really serving us either. They are the time wasters, keeping us too busy to move towards growth and alignment. Keeping us stuck!

By sifting out the maybes and deciding whether they fit in your yes or no piles, this helps determine where to best spend your energy and focus. The difficult part is deciding to make these choices, rather than just continuing on with what you already know, because let’s face it - the easiest choice in life is to just continue doing the same thing. It’s much harder to stop, walk away, reassess and really question if those choices still serve you.

I’m finding this now as I try to decide what work I want to do moving forward. Each option has its pros and cons, something new to learn, something that scares me a little and ultimately means a new start. The other thing I keep seeing is jobs I could easily do, the ones that align with my work history and industry, the type of roles I could walk into and know what to do straight away. It would be easier to apply for these roles, but the point of making a change is to look for something that is a definite yes, a role I’d be excited to do and one that brings me satisfaction. Staying in my comfort zone isn’t going to do that.

As I continue looking to the future, maybe it’s worth looking at the maybes you’re holding onto and what you can rid from your life to free up space for something better.
